1. To read meter, find your water meter box, which is usually located at the edge of your property.
2.Carefully remove the cover.
3.The meter looks like a car odometer, but reads water flow in cubic feet (1 cubic foot = 7.48). The red triangle will spin when water is flowing through the meter. If all your water fixtures are off and the red triangle (see enlarged meter image) is still spinning, you may have a fixture that is not fully off or a leak.
You can keep track of your monthly water usage by recording the meter reading on the same day of each month. Simply subtract the last month reading from the current month reading. The result will be in cubic feet. You can multiply this by 7.48 to convert this to an approximate usage in gallons. You may want to do this on the same day your meter is normally read (see your water bill for the date).
